The Knack
Takeout only, with plenty nearby to take in
The Knack looks like it was designed by a trendy tiny house builder who had aspirations of opening one of the best seafood joints around. If that sounds like the fantasy version of yourself, the drive right down 6A until you hit this roadside stand in Orleans. We absolutely loved this spot and can’t wait to go back again this summer. We’d tell you why, but the owners say it so well on their website, so we’ll let them do it.
Our goal is to perfect the Cape Cod roadside stand. By partnering with local fishermen, we provide you the best, freshest seafood. We work with a local butcher to serve you our own delicious blend of all-natural, freshly ground, hamburger meat. We buy produce from Cape farms to bring you local, seasonal vegetables.

What To Order
The Knack takes its whole menu and makes sure whatever you’re craving is met with a meal that is as delicious as it is beautiful. That was absolutely true of the lobster roll. Cold with a light lemon mayo, chives, and bright green bibb lettuce on a deliciously buttered and toasted bun, we loved this lobster roll as much for its looks as we did for its well-balanced taste. Clam rolls came and went while we waited and we almost had to adjust our order as a result, but we’re happy we stayed the course. Our fish tacos, with lightly fried haddock, cabbage, radish, cilantro, lime, and crema came two per order, and (despite their generous size) we really wish we had more. We can’t recommend them enough. Their online ordering menu makes it easy to order ahead and pick-up (which is recommended during busy summer months). Since parking can be tough, you might want to head there with two per car and drop-off a designated food-grabber while the driver circles.
Where To Go
While “roadside” isn’t exactly synonymous with “views,” what the Knack lacks in atmosphere it makes up for in location. Some of the most dramatic beaches on the Cape Cod National Seashore are within fifteen minutes, making it the perfect place to grab something great and head to the east coast. Nauset, Coast Guard, and Marconi are all great stops for their tall dunes, subsequent cliffs, and strong surf. We took our food on a late spring afternoon and watched the surfers from a bench perched on top of the cliffs at Marconi. We couldn’t recommend it enough as an incredible one-two punch in lunch and scenery.
