The Oyster Club
Right in historic downtown Mystic, CT, the Oyster Club is a must-stop for anyone looking to eat some fresh seafood while in town. All restaurant and no shack, head to the upstairs Treehouse for the casual vibe you’re looking for as a member of the NECS faithful, and place your order at the bar while your buddy finds a table. With multi-level wood decks and different types of seating (including standing rails), it feels like Swiss Family Robinson learned how to shuck oysters and brew craft beer up here and we really, really like it.
What To Order
Grab a dozen — you guessed it — oysters, and any of their inventive craft cocktails or curated list of local beers while you decide your next move. Choose your meal wisely, but always choose the lobster roll. It’s buttery, warm, and served with apple butter, fresh parsley, and crispy shallots, which was not only a first for us, but an only since. If lobster isn’t your thing, the fried scallop roll isn’t as eye-worthy, but its fresh, delicious, and done just right.
Where to Go
All the gems of Mystic are ready to give you a solid weekend. Some of our favorites are an ice cream and clams lunch at Sea Swirl, happy hour on the Adirondack chairs at Red 36, dinner at S&P Oysters, late-night burgers at the Engine Room, and a slice or two (and photo or three) at movie-famous Mystic Pizza. Or take a ride over to Noank for seafood favorites like Ford’s Lobster and Abbott’s for views and lobster served so many ways, you might have to make two trips. For adults, the nearby Saltwater Farm Vineyard offers tastings and endless views. For kids, the Mystic Aquarium is still as fun as it was growing-up.
