A lobster roll to write home about — from a dog shack

Located on the always busy Lower County Road in Dennis, one of Cape Cod’s most accessible destinations, the Dog House Restaurant turns heads with its busy patio and fun aesthetic. Known for their hot dogs, we were surprised when we went to grab dinner and saw they had a 5 oz. lobster roll on the menu. Since it was asking to be ordered, we obliged, and the results were as pretty as they were impressive. 

What To Order

The aforementioned “Lobstah Roll” is a must-order. With 5 ounces of lobster, it’s not the biggest helping you’ve ever had, but the size of the claw alone made it an absolute winner on any eye test.  Served cold on a (what else?) hot dog bun, we definitely recommend it whether sitting on the patio with a beer or ordering curbside to-go (from their easy online ordering system) and heading to the beach.

Seafood aside, a Show Dog is what you’ll want to order. Start with the Hot n’ Spicy Dog, which holds a true mix of joy between its buns with toppings of Queso cheese, Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, seared jalapeños, hot sauce, Sriracha, and crushed red pepper. Forever and ever, Amen. Or opt instead for your favorite sandwich in hot dog form, with Pastrami Reuben and BLT options on this creative menu. For traditionalists, the West Dennis Beach Dog takes your favorite childhood lunch of mac n’ cheese and hot dogs and combines them with your adult love of bacon in one perfect serving. 

Anything you order should include a side of Loaded Tots, with options like Hot Mess (cheese, buffalo sauce,  jalapeños), “The Works” (beef chili bacon, sour cream, green onions), and Chicken Bacon Ranch (shredded chicken), you really can’t go wrong. The Crispy Onion Rings are nothing to sneeze at, either. 

Where to Go

When it comes to beaches nearby, you have to head to West Dennis Beach. With its soft sand, fun (but manageable) waves, and huge parking lot — a favorite of local walkers, it’s the perfect destination to head with some sunset takeout or a beachy lunch. If West Dennis isn’t your spot, we love South Village Beach for its beautiful sunsets and gorgeous views of the Swan River. 

If you’re looking to drink after your Dog House dinner, the mudslides at Chapin’s are some of the best around (if you don’t believe us, ask Uncle Jimmy), and Cleat & Anchor across the street has a patio built for summer weather.
